First, there was Palestine.

By Dalia Alahmad & Nebal Farsakh

When people think of Palestine, they don’t always remember the communities of Arab Christians who have lived in the region for centuries. Nick Zaybak, who was born in Jerusalem in 1944, describes a “brotherhood” and shared identity between Muslims and Christians in Palestine. Like many of his community, his family fled Palestine in 1948 and eventually immigrated to the United Sates, seeking freedom, economic opportunity, and peace. But decades later, Nick still finds solace in his connection to the Holy Land of his birth.
